“What makes our nation great is not the land we toil over, nor is it the ice filled seas we sail, it is our people. Their ferocity and faith, their strength and serenity. Russland has been separate from the other nations of man since before the monsters were all slain. Russland has the only direct link to the savoir himself, and is the only nation that walks the path the Lord Hamirati has set forward for humans. We act with total authority, and stand as a lone bastion of faith on a continent of the quasi faithful.” General Isaac Rustolov
Russland is the largest nation of men, and it in many ways it is the most culturally unique. Russland separated from armies of man before the last Keepers founded the Church of Retter. They did this because a young girl was identified as the illegitimate child of Retter, and she rose in prominence in the Russlandic people. Nadia Retter, as she called herself, claimed her unusual fatherhood through her dead mother, who fought in the armies of man and became pregnant in a war camp in which Retter was stationed for several months. While most nations refused to accept an illegitimate heiress to Retter’s throne, Russland gave Nadia the highest authority in their land. She chose a husband, a strong Russlandic man, and had a child. This began the monarchy that still claims a direct line to Retter.
Russland, with its massive land holdings, has a relatively large population of people. There are only three major cities; Rettersburg, Krackow, and Schlossberg. This three cities each house roughly two million people, and their claims to land extend to the surrounding farms. They mainly farm root vegetables and hunt large game. Their national drink is fermented root vegetables, and is called Slaw. Each city, town, and village makes their Slaw slightly differently, but each makes it strong. Culturally young Russlandic children are expected to help around the house, and schooling is extremely rare. For the poor and middle class schooling is largely informal and takes place in the home, and two days a week through the local church. For the wealthy there are extended care, boarding schools largely aimed at developing magical scientists and military leaders. Again, these boarding schools are hosted through the church, and there are schools in Rettersburg, Krackow, and Schlossberg.
